Last week a sick dog from outside Larimer County was euthanized at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (CSU VTH) after being hospitalized for four days. This dog tested positive for Yersinia pestis, the bacteria that cause plague. The type of plague this dog had was pneumonic plague, which is a lung infection.  The dog may have become infected by sniffing a dead prairie dog a day or two before becoming ill.

On December 6, 2017 Office of Larimer County Coroner investigated the death of a Larimer County Jail inmate who was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies on December 5, 2017.

The decedent is identified as Lacy Briles, age 35 of Fort Collins, Colorado.

An autopsy was performed by Larimer County Coroner James Wilkerson, MD.

Manner of Death is Suicide

Cause of Death is Asphyxia by Hanging

Decedent hanged herself with a sheet in a single occupant jail cell.  Resuscitation and hospitalization was unsuccessful.

On November 27, 2017 a toddler was transported from the Big Thompson River, near Drake, Colorado, to Medical Center of the Rockies where she later died.

The decedent was identified as 23 month old, Ellie Lynn Pascale-Webb, of Drake,  Colorado.

A forensic autopsy was performed with Manner of Death as Accident, and Cause of Death as Drowning. Hypothermia was contributory.
