Leadership Development Program

The goal and purpose of the Leadership Development Program is to create an inclusive, adaptable, and collaborative work environment by providing common language, experiences, expectations, tools, and resources for leaders. Although everyone is a leader in their own capacity, this program is targeted towards those who supervise or have direct reports, and those interested in becoming supervisors. If you are interested in participating, please discuss the time requirements with your supervisor and get their approval, then reach out to Christine Kuehnast or Nicole Berg to learn more about the next available session.

Human Resources is committed to creating an inclusive, adaptable, and collaborative work environment with high retention (lower turnover) and high employee engagement by developing leaders who are courageous, self-aware, inclusive, empathetic, accountable, strong communicators, team builders, and problem solvers.

The Leadership Development program is a three-level sequential program: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Employees need to complete each level before advancing to the next level.  Employees do not have to advance to the next level after completing a level, or complete all levels.

This program is open to all County employees who have at least 1 direct report, or are looking to grow so they may become a leader in the future.

Prerequisite Requirement: Complete Supervisor Essentials within the last three years.

The Bronze level focuses on the leader learning and understanding their individual tendencies, strengths, and opportunities for development. Topics  cover how to get results from conversations and communication, how to recognize and understand bias in the workplace, a leadership style assessment, and you'll begin your conscious leadership journey by learning about leading above the line, the drama triangle and a collaborative approach to conflict. The program begins every January and ends in December.

Leadership Development Gold

The Gold level focuses on leaders giving back to those entering the program by applying what is learned to mentor and teach other leaders in a Community of Practice or with a learning partner. In addition, the final content of conscious leadership of healthy responsibility, communication intelligence for leaders, and clear agreements will be learned.

. The program begins every January and ends in December.

  • Choose from one of the following required options (22-64 hours depending on which option is selected):

    • Become a Community of Practice Facilitator for 1 Year
You’ve experienced this, now you get to facilitate and lead it. We provide you all the tools and support you need (including a co-facilitator if you’d like) to do this successfully, including a monthly prep meeting with other facilitators before your CoP meets. (This option requires approval from Christine Kuehnast and Nicole Berg.)

    • Become a Learning Partner
You’ll be partnered with another participant in the Gold Level and each partner will choose a topic to teach to their learning partner monthly. It is required to meet with your assigned learning partner for 1 hour each month for 1 year. Each partner teaches for 30 minutes from the list of topics provided. How you teach it and how much time you spend preparing for the session is up to you. We’ll notify you of who your partner is, and the coordination and completion is up to you.
