Larimer County Offices, Courts, and District Attorney will be closed January 21, 2019 in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The Larimer County Landfill will be open. Critical services at Larimer County are not disrupted by closures.

May is Older Americans Month, and three individuals who enrich the quality of life for older Americans were recognized on May 10, 2018, at the Senior Volunteer Awards hosted by the Larimer County Office on Aging.

Billie Bridges received the 2018 Stan Ulrich Senior Volunteer Award. Billie established a connection with the Food Bank in Loveland, and other organizations to help connect older Americans with the resources they offer. She has also learned to use the City of Loveland’s CERVIS [computerized volunteer program] to record and register volunteers for programs around the city. She just turned 90 and is so supportive and helpful to staff and the public, and has such a giving spirit.

Sue Squier was given the 2018 Outstanding Family Caregiver Award. Sue was chosen for the award while caring for her husband, who has dementia. Sue is engaged in community programs like the B-Sharp Program, memory café, CSU’s Aging Clinic of the Rockies, and adult day and in-home programs. Sue has touched many lives through her involvement in these programs.

Eleanor Comstock was named the Senior Tax Work-Off Volunteer Extraordinaire for her volunteer work in the Senior Tax Work-Off Program, for 19 years. She helps manage the process for those who wish to participate in the Senior Tax Work-Off Program, smoothing out the process for applicants. She easily makes friends with the applicants waiting to be interviewed for the program, and adds a tremendous value to the program.

Older adults are a vital part of our community. Since 1963, communities across the nation have shown their gratitude by celebrating Older Americans Month each May. More than ever before, older adults are volunteering, giving back, and interacting with their communities.
