LOVELAND, Colo. – Please join us in celebrating the work of painter Lyse Dzija, the 2016 Visual Artist of the Year for Larimer County Department of Natural Resources. A reception will be held:

3:00 p.m., February 15, 2017
Larimer County Courthouse Offices
2nd Floor Lobby
200 W. Oak St., Fort Collins

At the reception, Dzija will discuss her artwork, "Sand Creek in Springtime," an oil painting inspired by the creek running through Red Mountain Open Space near the Colorado-Wyoming border. Dzija will donate the piece to Larimer County for public display.

The goals of Larimer County's Visual Artist Program are to showcase and increase public appreciation of open spaces and parks in Larimer County through artistic expression.

Dzija enjoys exploring nature and discovered the scene that inspired her oil painting during a visit last spring to Red Mountain. In her own words, "The grasslands, canyons and billion-year-old rocks of Red Mountain Open Space command respect. I came upon Sand Creek while hiking there. A noisy, busy creek, it seems to celebrate boisterous life even during the late-winter doldrums. The complexities of nature, revealed even in a small section of pebbles in a small creek, inspires me to magnify, dramatize and elaborate the features of this simple subject."

Dzija was juried into and attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the oldest art school in the U.S., before launching her career as a professional artist. Specializing in oil and pastel paintings, Dzija has painted for more than 40 years. She has exhibited her work in galleries across the United States and won numerous awards at exhibitions in Colorado and elsewhere. "I wish to subtly stir the viewer’s soul to want to explore the outdoors and realize this is an increasingly fading opportunity," Dzija said.
