An amended Professional Services Agreement with SummitStone Health Partners for the new county-owned regional behavioral health facility was presented to the Larimer County Board of County Commissioners and approved during the Administrative Matters meeting on September 7, 2021.

The Professional Services Agreement reflects an updated project timeline for the facility which is scheduled to open in mid-2023. The changes to the timeline are due to design and construction planning adjustments and start-of-construction delays.

The amended agreement also reflects the addition of several services and positions to support both the critical needs of the community and the seamless opening of the new facility. Behavioral Health Services will collaborate with the contracted vendor, SummitStone Health Partners, to expand current levels of care available to residents through other community-based SummitStone care locations and services available for residents struggling with mental health and/or substance use disorders.

“We are excited to be at this next point in the project, building the on-ramp to the opening of the new BHS Facility. With facility design and planning complete, and construction beginning, operationally, we enter start-up work now, building workforce pipelines, building partnerships, and prioritizing next steps to ensure the most seamless opening possible,” said Laurie Stolen, Director of Behavioral Health Services.

SummitStone Health Partners, one of the region’s largest behavioral health care employers, and our Community Mental Health Center is the contracted provider of clinical care and treatment at the new facility.

The new facility is slated to bring over 180 new jobs to Larimer County. SummitStone is planning a nationwide recruitment effort to attract care providers to the area and will also work with local colleges, starting with the CSU School of Social Work, to create training and internship programs that will offer students clinical experience with the potential for employment at the facility.

SummitStone will be recruiting to fill key roles for the facility such as an executive director, and a business development liaison focused on developing relationships with entities that have a particular focus on serving populations of color and those experiencing vulnerabilities for recruitment of interns and employees.

A team of care coordinators will also be hired to provide moderate to intensive care coordination services to Larimer County residents who require help navigating multiple diverging and intersecting systems of care around our community. Establishing this team before the opening will allow them to gain hands-on experience navigating the options available in Larimer County and will ensure an informed and responsive approach to care by the time the facility opens.

Once open, services at the facility will include:

  • Behavioral Health Urgent Care: Available 24/7
  • Two Levels of Withdrawal Management (Detox)
    • Social Detox
    • Medically Monitored Detox
  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
  • Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) - A short-term residential program that provides care to individuals with moderate to severe acute psychiatric or co-occurring crises.
  • Short-term intensive residential treatment (IRT) - A short-term residential program that provides care to clients focused on recovery after detox.
  • On-site pharmacy and lab services

The facility will serve Larimer County residents in need of urgent help for mental health and/or substance use disorders regardless of their ability to pay, race, color, ethnic or national origin, ancestry, age, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, religion, creed, political beliefs, or disability.

The Larimer County behavioral health services facility will be located at 2100 W. Trilby Rd. Fort Collins, CO 80526.
