FORT COLLINS: Larimer County Department of Natural Resources (LCDNR) is marking the one-year anniversary of the loss of Ranger Brendan Unitt with a boat procession of remembrance at Horsetooth Reservoir this Friday, August 20.

Community members wishing to pay their respects to Ranger Unitt are invited to line the sides of the reservoir to watch the boat procession, which will travel from South Bay to Rotary Park, beginning at approximately 6 p.m.

“While it has been nearly one year since Brendan was with us, we are continually humbled by his impact on our community,” said Mark Caughlan, Horsetooth Reservoir District Manager. “He will never be forgotten.”

Brendan began to serve as a LCDNR Boat Ranger at Horsetooth Reservoir in 2020 and committed himself wholeheartedly to providing safety assistance and emergency response to park visitors. Without hesitation, he selflessly responded to an emergency call for help from two distressed swimmers during a severe storm event on August 20, 2020 when he risked and lost his life to save another. He was 27 years old.
