Behavioral Health Services grant recipient supports veterans, prevents suicide
Grant funding was awarded to the Healing Warriors Program from the Larimer County Behavioral Health Services Impact fund to help improve the mental health of Larimer County Veterans.
Larimer County Behavioral Health awarded a $25,000 grant to the Healing Warriors Program to help support Larimer County veterans through a trauma recovery support program. The grant helps to fund an integrative clinic that offers non-narcotic treatment to help address Post Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and various types of chronic pain.
The grant award enabled the Healing Warriors Program to deliver care to 184 veterans through a trauma recovery support program designed to reduce Post-Traumatic Stress. After completing the program, 79% of the participants reported lower levels of anxiety, a key Post Traumatic Stress indicator, and suicidal risk factor.
With the national suicide rate of 17.5 and Colorado overall suicide rate of 26.1, the comparative suicide rate for Colorado veterans is 42.9, making Colorado one of the highest states in the U.S. for veteran suicide.
Since opening in July 2013 through mid-2019, the Healing Warriors clinic in Fort Collins has delivered over 15,000 sessions to veterans and their families. Learn more about Healing Warriors at HealingWarriorsProgram. If you’re a veteran and need help, call the Veteran Crisis Line, 1-800-273-8255.
