The Unemployment Insurance (UI) system is administered by the State of Colorado not Larimer County Economic and Workforce Development and is primarily an online system. The State of Colorado introduced a new phone system for unemployment callers.  The phone system offers prerecorded information on the unemployment insurance filing process and eligibility.  Callers who still have questions have the option of scheduling a callback time to speak to an Unemployment Claims agent.  To reach the State of Colorado Unemployment customer service call 1.800.388.5515.

New work-search requirements are in place. You are now required to complete work-search activities every week to be paid benefits unless you are job attached.  Have questions on what qualifies as a work-search activity?  Visit the Information on Unemployment Insurance work search requirements page.  

Important Unemployment Insurance Updates

  • Need to file an unemployment claim?  View the guide to filing for UI benefits.  Still have questions?  Watch the How to Video Series for help on filing, a claim and getting paid.  Videos are available in English and in Spanish.
  • View the Colorado Department of Labor and employment Return to work guidance for workers. 
  • If you have exhausted your regular unemployment benefits you may be eligible for Pandemic Unemployment Emergency Compensation. You will be asked to refile a claim.  File for extended benefits.
  • All eligible claimants will receive the extra $600/week benefit available under the CARES Act. The $600/week will be added to your regular benefit when you request payment on your claim. You do not need to take any action other than continue your regular payment request process. These benefits are retroactive to March 29, 2020.

Other tips when filing a claim for Unemployment Insurance:

  • While filing the claim, click the Save & Finish Later button often, and click File a Claim to return to the last page you saved.  Claims must be completed and submitted within 24 hours or the information is not retained! 
  • File during non-peak hours (evenings after 8 p.m., late nights, early mornings). It may improve your experience.
  • You must provide information about the reason you are no longer working for all employers from the last 18 months. If you have a lot of information to include, it is best if you type up this information before you start, then copy/paste at the appropriate time.
  • Once finished, click Submit one time. When the claim is successfully submitted, you will receive a confirmation page and number.
  • The application to file a claim will be unavailable daily from 6 to 8 p.m. for maintenance.

General UI Claim Information

  • PIN numbers are typically only sent via a computer-generated system.  However, due to the high volume of claims, UI has been emailing or using a phone recording system to send out PINs.  If you receive a PIN by phone or email, this is legitimate!
  • If you need a PIN reset or did not receive a PIN, the options are to call 888.550.2800 or online by clicking here.
  • If you are unable to access the MyUI system, you can request payment by calling 1.800.550.2800.

  • Requesting payment every two weeks keeps your claim active.  If you haven't received a PIN before the first date you are to request payment, please contact 1.800.388.5515.
  • Please remember to report UI income and any income changes if you are receiving food assistance through the Department of Human Services.
