On January 10, 2020 at approximately 10:08 pm the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single vehicle crash near the intersection of Colorado Highway 56 and Gateway Park Boulevard in the Town of Berthoud. A 40-year-old female believed to be the driver and only occupant was ejected from the vehicle. The female was transported to an area hospital where she remains in critical condition.

The investigation thus far has revealed that a blue 1998 Jeep Cherokee was westbound on Highway 56 when it struck a median at Gateway Park Boulevard. The vehicle then crossed over Highway 56 leaving the roadway on the south side where it struck a power pole. The vehicle rolled in a field, ejecting the driver.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office CRASH Team responded to investigate, and Highway 56 between Berthoud Parkway and Meadowlark Drive remained closed for approximately four hours. The crash investigation is ongoing, and investigators suspect drugs and/or alcohol as contributing factors. When the investigation is complete, investigators will screen the case with the Larimer County District Attorney to determine if any criminal charges will be sought.

Anyone who witnessed this crash and has not already spoken to deputies is asked to call Corporal Justin Williamson at 970-682-0537.
