Transportation needs, employment opportunities, and facilities expansion were some of the topics discussed during an update of the Larimer County 2019 – 2023 Strategic Plan with the Board of Larimer County Commissioners on August 26th.

The plan’s goals are designed to prepare the community for growth and to adequately deliver services for a growing and increasingly diverse Larimer County population.

According to the State of Colorado demographer, the area will grow in the next few decades to about 508,000 people, a 44% increase.

A goal objective is to establish a regional task force for transportation projects which is part of the Half-Penny Tax initiative that has been placed on the November 2019 ballot. Larimer County is also developing a strategy for rural road maintenance and construction by standardizing road maintenance and examining a regional approach with other local governments.

Work has started on how to expand broadband services in unincorporated areas of Larimer County, with results to come from the broadband committee.

Another goal objective is to ensure access to economic opportunities and vibrant quality of life to all residents including those with disabilities while finding ways connect with hard to reach populations and increase outreach strategies to those groups.

Reducing facility square-footage to more efficiently use space in Larimer County facilities is another goal objective.

In delivering services for the future, three traits needed for Larimer County’s future workforce have been identified. These traits are adaptive, collaborative and inclusive.

Also included is environmental responsibility in regular county activities through recycling and energy use, more standardization for credit card use online by residents and adopting “Amazon” type of services --- when residents use a county service online, they are notified about other services they use as well.
