Larimer County has again been recognized for achieving the Platinum Level in 2018 by participating in the Climate Wise Program with the City of Fort Collins.

The Platinum Level is the highest achievement awarded to an organization in five areas of the Climate Wise Program: energy, waste, water, transportation and social responsibility.

Climate wise is a free, volunteer program with innovative solutions for organizations to reduce their impact on the environment.

Larimer County in 2018 helped reduce waste by keeping 518 tons of materials out of our landfill through recycling.

For perspective, an average car weighs about two tons, showing Larimer County diverted a large amount of waste from the landfill in 2018.

Also, in 2017 all fluorescent lights in the 5-story Larimer County Courthouse Offices building were replaced with brighter, energy-stingy LED bulbs, reducing electricity use in that facility by half.

“Our focus on being good stewards of our resources is something we can be proud of,” said Larimer County Commissioner Tom Donnelly. “Every dollar we save on energy is a dollar we can put toward having someone give you your license plates faster.”

Larimer County is one of 195 organizations that participate in the Climate Wise Program. https://www.fcgov.com/climatewise/
