Delinquent property tax statements for the property tax year 2018 payable in 2019 will hit mailboxes later this week. Taxpayers who submitted payment within the last couple of weeks may still receive a delinquent statement in the mail due to the printing and mailing process.

Larimer County Treasurer Irene Josey reminds taxpayers that each year they have two options when paying their property taxes. If paying in full, the deadline is April 30. If paying in two equal installments, the first half is due by February 28, and the second half is due by June 15. The second half deadline was extended to June 17 this year since the statutory deadline fell on a Saturday.

Many property owners have an escrow account with a mortgage company which submits property tax payments on their behalf. Please note that all funds received from mortgage companies have been processed and posted at this time.

Property owners who have not yet paid their taxes and did not submit a first-half payment began accruing delinquent interest as of May 1. Property owners who submitted a first-half payment but did not submit a second-half payment began accruing delinquent interest as of June 18. Interest accrues at a rate of 1% each month or part of a month that it is delinquent, in accordance with the Colorado Revised Statutes.

Property taxes and delinquent interest collected by the county treasurer are distributed to the local taxing authorities, including cities and towns, fire districts, and health districts.
