At about 9:00 a.m., more than 20 personnel from Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services, Larimer County Search and Rescue, and Larimer County Dive Rescue Team resumed searching for the man last seen yesterday while rafting in the Poudre River.  Ground crews and a drone team searched a 12 mile stretch of the river from mile marker 107 to mile marker 119 on Highway 14 but did not find the man.  Searchers did not enter the high and swift flowing river as they did not find anything or have any information leading them to search a specific part of the river.

The search was called off at about 3:00 p.m. and no further large-scale search operations are planned unless new information becomes available about the man’s location.  LCSO Emergency Services personnel will monitor the river conditions to determine when to conduct future searches.

The missing man is 57-year-old David L. Smith of Fort Collins.  He was last seen wearing blue jeans and no shirt.  LCSO will continue to keep his family updated with any new information.

On Saturday, June 29, 2019 at approximately 2:20 p.m., the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a group of three rafters were in the Poudre River after their single chamber inflatable raft came out from under them between mile markers 107 and 108 on Highway 14. Two of the rafters were able to make it out of the river but were separated from the third rafter.

Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services, Larimer County Dive Rescue Team, Larimer County Search and Rescue, Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District, Poudre Fire Authority, U.S. Forest Service, UC Health, Life Line, and Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the area to search for the missing 57-year-old male from Fort Collins, who was not wearing a life jacket or a safety helmet. The search was suspended at 7:40 p.m., but resources will resume searching in the morning.

A 46-year-old Fort Collins man and his 13-year-old son were the two other rafters that were with the missing man. Both suffered minor injuries and were released at the scene after being checked out by medical personnel. The 13-year-old was the only one wearing a life jacket.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Larimer County Sheriff’s Office at 970-416-1985.
