A new 2-mile section of the Limber Pine Trail opened Saturday, June 9 at Hermit Park Open Space. The new section of trail is open to hiking, biking and horseback riding.

The newly opened trail runs from the Limber Pine Trail's junction with the Kruger Rock Trail to Hermit's Hollow Campground. The first section of the Limber Pine Trail opened in the fall of 2017, so the Limber Pine Trail now extends 4.5 miles from the Moose Meadow Trail to Hermit's Hollow Campground.

The Limber Pine Trail meanders through forests of pine and aspen trees and offers views of the surrounding mountains in the Estes Valley.

Visitors can access the new trail section by parking at either the Kruger Rock Trailhead or the Moose Meadow Trailhead (i.e., the trailhead to Homestead Meadows). The trail can also be accessed from the Kruger Equestrian Campground, although there is no day use parking at this campground.

The final section of the Limber Pine Trail, from Hermit's Hollow Campground to the "saddle" area of Hermit Park, is slated to open later in 2018. New trailheads are also expected to open to allow more day use parking and access to the new trail system at Hermit Park.

The new trail system, which includes both the Limber Pine Trail and Moose Meadow Trail, was built by Larimer County Natural Resources' trail crew, Larimer County Conservation Corps crews and dozens of volunteers. Many thanks to the LCCC and volunteers for their help in building these new trails.

Hermit Park Open Space is located 2 miles southeast of Estes Park, Colo., and offers multi-use trails, campgrounds, cabins and a group pavilion.
