LOVELAND, Colo. – Please join us in celebrating the work of painter Larry Tucci, the 2017 Visual Artist of the Year for Larimer County Department of Natural Resources. A reception is set for:

3:00 p.m., February 20, 2018
Larimer County Courthouse Offices
2nd Floor Lobby
200 W. Oak St., Fort Collins

At the reception, Tucci will discuss his artwork, "A Proud Heritage - Red-tailed Hawk at Soderberg," an oil painting inspired by a bird frequently seen soaring above the historic structures of the Soderberg Ranch located at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space. Tucci will donate the piece to Larimer County for public display.

The goals of Larimer County's Visual Artist Program are to showcase and increase public appreciation of open spaces and parks in Larimer County through artistic expression.

A resident of Fort Collins, Tucci often visits the Horsetooth area with his family. In his own words, "I have always been a passionate lover of the outdoors and have made it the main subject of my artistic work. In recent years, I have also enjoyed including rich human heritage in my art, at times. My painting for the Artist of the Year program for 2017 is a celebration of both the natural features of Larimer County, and a unique human history as well. Soderberg is truly alive with the spirit of our past. I enjoyed combining that feeling with an impressive red-tailed hawk, now on permanent watch in this beautiful setting."

Tucci worked as a commercial artist for nearly 20 years in Detroit before moving to Fort Collins a decade ago. Today, he works as a professional fine artist and teaches art classes with the City of Fort Collins Recreation Department. Inspired by nature, Tucci's subjects include birds, animals, fish and landscapes, as well as historical western subjects. He has exhibited his work in galleries across the United States, including a recent solo show at the Carnegie Center for Creativity in Fort Collins, and had his paintings featured on numerous state and regional conservation stamps. He hopes to promote public appreciation for nature through his art by "making connections for people between amazing wild creatures and the beautiful habitat they need to survive," he said.
