Larimer County Department of Natural Resources has a new online event registration system. People should now visit offero.larimer.org to view and sign up for guided hikes and programs.

Saturday, April 8, 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. "Snakes of Colorado" Join Larimer County naturalists for a guided hike through Devil's Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland off of Hwy. 34, to learn all about one of Colorado's local residents, snakes! Hike rating: easy. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring along some water to drink. Program is free, but registration is required. Go to offero.larimer.org to sign up. Monday, April 10, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. "Moon Over My Open Space – Snakes" Join Larimer County naturalists for a moonlit walk at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space, located just west of Fort Collins on C.R. 38E, to learn all about one of Colorado's local residents, snakes! Tuesday, April 11, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. "Tiny Trekkers" Join Larimer County naturalists for a program designed for your 2-5 year old and you. This program at Devil's Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland off of Hwy. 34, will be a morning filled with crafts, stories and fun facts! A parent or guardian must accompany the child for this hour-long program. After the program, feel free to explore the open space with your child. Program is free, but registration is required. Thursday, April 13, 7:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. "Night Sky Photography" Join Larimer County naturalists at Devil's Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland off of Hwy. 34, to learn how to take beautiful night sky pictures. This program will teach you about astrophotography, including camera setup, focusing and a bit about composition and post processing. Bring a camera with manual focus, lenses, tripod and a red lens flashlight if you have them. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Program is free, but registration is required. Saturday, April 15, 8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. "Stargazing with the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society" Join members of the NCAS for an up-close look at the night sky over the Rockies. Telescopes will be available for viewing stars, galaxies, planets and more. This open house-style program is located at the Devil's Backbone Open Space parking lot, located just west of Loveland off of Hwy. 34. Dress warmly for evening temperatures and bring binoculars if you have them. Program is free, but registration is required. Please go to offero.larimer.org to sign up. Saturday, April 22, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. "On the Trail of Predators: Red Mountain" Join local naturalist David Neils (www.offthepavement.org) on a guided hike at Red Mountain Open Space, located north of Fort Collins. Learn about the predators that call Red Mountain home, including mountain lion, bobcat, coyote, black bear and fox. Check wildlife cameras for a real-life look at some of these predators. This moderate hike is 4-6 miles round-trip. Participants should be prepared for an all-day outing: Dress appropriately for the weather, wear good hiking footwear and bring plenty of water, as well as lunch for eating on the trail. Saturday, April 22, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. "Geology of Devil's Backbone" Join Larimer County naturalists for an up-close introduction to the geology of Devil's Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland off of Hwy. 34. Learn about the rock layers that formed from 200 million-year-old beaches, lakes and rivers and the subsequent forces that have reshaped these layers into the unique landscape we see today.
