Transfer stations are located in outlying areas of the county and are designed to make it easier for local residents to rid themselves of household wastes. The wastes collected at transfer stations are periodically transported to the Larimer County Landfill. Per Colorado Revised Statutes 42-4-1407, all waste - regardless of size, type or weight, and even if placed in plastic bags - must be completely enclosed with a cover and secured to your vehicle. This policy is strictly enforced. Uncovered loads are charged double fees.

The Berthoud Transfer Station is located south of Highway 56 off County Line Road, east of the gun club. Coming from Berthoud, go east on Highway 56 and turn south on County Line Road. Travel about 1/2 mile and turn east on the first gravel road. The transfer station is on the south side of the road.

The property is owned by the Town of Berthoud, but the site is operated by Larimer County.

Hours: 9am - 4pm, Wednesdays and Saturdays

  • The Berthoud Transfer Station accepts household trash only. Items must be 4 feet x 4 feet or smaller. No tree branches or large items such as sofas, mattresses or appliances are accepted at this site. These items should be taken to the Larimer County Landfill.
  • Household hazardous wastes like pesticides, paint thinners and cleaners must be taken to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at the landfill.

The Estes Park Transfer Station is located at 455 Elm Road in Estes Park. The transfer station is at the site of the old Estes Park Landfill, which was closed by Larimer County in 1984. The Town of Estes Park owns the site and Waste Management, Inc. operates it under contract with Larimer County.

  • October 1 - April 30: 8am - 4pm, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays
  • May and September: 8am - 4pm, Tuesday through Saturday
  • June - August: 8am - 4pm, Monday through Saturday

The Red Feather Lakes Transfer Station is located on Red Feather Lakes Road. Enter through the U.S. Forest Service entrance between Parvin and West Lakes.

  • November through April: 9am - 4pm the first Saturday of each month
  • May through October: 9am - 4pm every Saturday

The Wellington Transfer Station is located on County Road 70 (also known as Owl Canyon Road), between County Roads 7 and 9. From Wellington, go north on County Road 9, turn east on County Road 70, and the transfer station is about 1/2 mile down the road. Owned and operated by Larimer County, the transfer station is located on the site of the Wellington Landfill, which was closed in 1986.

Hours: 9am - 4pm, Saturdays and Sundays only year round
