The Senior Tax Work-Off Program has been discontinued as of 2023.

The Senior Tax Work-Off Program assisted eligible older adults in paying a portion of their Larimer County property tax bills by providing up to $500 in grant money, in exchange for worked time. During the COVID-19 pandemic, recipients were not required to complete work hours in exchange for their payment given public health restrictions. Colorado Revised Statute 39-3.7-102, which is the statute governing the Senior Tax Work-Off Program, requires participants to work in exchange for the funds. The Larimer County Board of Commissioners waived this requirement for the last several years to protect the health of participants. However, this statute prohibits the county from converting the program into a grant only model moving forward.

During 2022, County staff thoroughly evaluated the Senior Tax Work-Off Program.  Due to legal and financial constraints, it was determined the program will discontinue after final payments in 2023. Final payments were granted to participants from 2022 in the same amounts awarded in 2022.

Larimer County is working to develop a countywide housing strategy in 2023. The strategy aims to support housing programming that impacts all residents. Staff is currently working alongside Partnership for Age Friendly Communities and other partners. We will continue to seek opportunities to support older adult homeowners, evaluate their options to age in place, and provide resources.
