If you have a vacation home in the Estes Valley Planning Area, but outside the town limits of Estes Park, we must perform a Life Safety Survey inspection under an issued building permit, and issue a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) for the conversion to a Vacation Home.

You have 60 days from the issuance of your vacation home registration to apply for your County building permit.

Issuing a conversion permit requires parcel research to see if any unpermitted work was done so “as-built” permits may be issued. The conversion permit and any as-built permits must receive final inspection approval to obtain your Vacation Home Conversion CO, and there may be corrections required from the Life-Safety Survey inspection. It is your responsibility to schedule the inspections and make all corrections in a timely manner. If you wait too long, you may run out of time and lose your vacation home registration.

Once your permit is issued, you will have 6 months to schedule your life safety inspection.  After your life safety inspection, you will have 12 months to make any needed corrections.
