Helpful Tips to Know Before Your Visit

Larimer County is now under a Fire Ban

As of August 18 through October 30, 2020, an open fire ban for unincorporated Larimer County went into effect. Please review the following tips to know before you visit:

Can I have a campfire during my visit?
No, open burning or fires are NOT allowed in any designated campsite, day use, or picnic area.  Pressurized liquid or gas devices (stoves, grill, or lanterns) with shut-off valves in an area at least three feet away from any flammable/combustible materials are allowed.

Can I use my stove located inside my RV?
Yes, you can use the stove located interior to your RV.

Can I use my portable camp stove?
Yes, you may use pressurized liquid or gas devices (stoves, grill, or lanterns) with shut-off valves in an area at least three feet away from any flammable/combustible materials.

The fire ban includes:

  • No open fires, no open burning.
  • No welding, or operating acetylene or other torch.
  • No smoking in the open, including trails, parks and open spaces or outside of buildings.
  • No fireworks or fireworks displays produced by combustion, detonation or deflagration.
  • No incendiary devices, including sky lanterns, exploding ammunition, exploding targets, and tracer ammunition.
  • No fires in permanently constructed outside stationary masonry or metal fireplaces.
  • Charcoal and wood pellet grills.
  • Propane fire pits.

Not banned:

  • Operation of an internal combustion engine with a spark arresting device properly installed.
  • Emergency signal devices and flares.
  • Fires and wood stoves located inside permanent structures. 
  • Propane grills.
  • Pressurized liquid or gas stoves, grills, lanterns, and heaters with shut-off valves in an area at least three feet away from any flammable/combustible materials.

Estes Valley Fire Ban
As of August 14, 2020, a ban on ALL open fires went into effect in Estes Valley Fire Protection District until further notice. This service area includes Hermit Park Open Space. Please note campfires at Hermit Park Open Space in approved developed campsites or picnic grounds and the use of charcoal grills are prohibited.
