Flu Activity on the Rise in Larimer County

Flu season is officially here in Larimer County. Twenty-one local residents have been hospitalized so far, most of them in the past two weeks. Surveillance for the 2018-2019 influenza season officially began on September 30, 2018, and will run through May 18, 2019. All hospitalized patients testing positive for flu after September 30 are counted as influenza cases.

Tom Gonzales Named New Public Health Director for Larimer County

Larimer County’s new Public Health Director Tom Gonzales will begin work December 3, 2018. Gonzales has 22 years of experience working in local public health and previously served as Deputy Public Health Director for El Paso County Public Health. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health from Colorado State University and a Master in Public Health from the University of Northern Colorado. He also is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist.

Salmonella Outbreak in Larimer County

The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment (LCDHE) is investigating an outbreak of Salmonella illness at La Luz Mexican Restaurant in Old Town Fort Collins. As of August 21, there are six confirmed cases with additional cases pending investigation and testing. Some of the confirmed cases have been hospitalized.
