Meeting Agenda and Minutes

The Rural Land Use Advisory Board advises the Rural Land Use Center (RLUC) staff on process negotiations and policy decisions, and makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners regarding rural land development and changes to the purposes and objectives of the RLUC.

The Rural Land Use Advisory Board was established by the Larimer County Commissioners in December, 1996. Currently, there are 9 members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and they each serve a staggered 3-year term.

The Rural Land Use Process provides landowners wishing to develop their land an alternative to creation of traditional 35-acre parcels, a use-by-right in Colorado for which there is little County review. The Rural Land Use Process is intended to be voluntary, user-friendly and flexible, and to permit and encourage patterns which are tailored to the characteristics of a specific property.

Among other goals, the Rural Land Use Process exists to encourage development that fosters continued agricultural land uses and to protect the County’s rural character, open space, and the character of existing communities while recognizing current zoning.

The purpose of the Advisory Board is to “advise the Rural Land Use Center staff on process negotiations and policy decisions, make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners regarding rural land development, changes to the Rural Land Use Process, and proposed preliminary rural land plans.

The Advisory Board meets regularly on the 1st and 3rd Monday’s of the month and the length of the meeting is typically 2-3 hours. In addition to the regular meetings, site visits are encouraged. The frequency of the site visits are hard to predict and depends greatly on the number of projects coming through the Process.
