1. Am I qualified to register to vote?

   You are eligible to register to vote if you:

   • Are a United States Citizen
   • Are 16 years of age, but you must be 18 years of age or older on the date of the election at which you intend to vote.
   • Are a Colorado resident for at least 22 days before the election at which you intend to vote.
   • Are not serving a sentence of incarceration for a felony conviction.

2. How do I register to vote?

   You can register to vote through the following methods:

3. Can I register to vote in person?

   Yes! You may register to vote in person Monday - Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM at the following Larimer County Offices:

   Estes Park

   Estes Park Vehicle Licensing: 1601 Brodie Ave., Estes Park, CO 80517

   Fort Collins

   Larimer County Elections: 200 W. Oak St. (5th floor), Fort Collins, CO 80521

   All Larimer County offices are closed on holidays.

   You may also register to vote in person when you obtain your Colorado Driver's License. The information you provide at the Driver's License office is used to register you to vote in Colorado.

   • Your county clerk will verify if they have a complete record to register you to vote.
   • If your record is complete, the county clerk will send a notice to you that you are registered to vote. You can return the notice to either decline to be registered or to affiliate with a party.
   • If you do not decline to be registered within 20 days after the notice is mailed, and the form is not returned as undeliverable, you are then registered to vote.

   You can also obtain a Voter Registration Form from the following locations and mail or drop off the registration form at 200 W Oak St. (5th floor), Fort Collins, CO 80521.

4. Do I need to include a copy of my ID if I mail my registration form?

   No, if:

   You are currently registered in Colorado and you are making a change to your registration record,

   -OR-

   You are registering for the first time in Colorado and you write your Colorado Driver's License or ID number on the form and we can verify that this number is yours.

   Yes, if:

   You do not have a Colorado Driver's License or ID number.

   Acceptable forms of IDs:

   • A valid Colorado driver's license
   • A valid identification card issued by the Department of Revenue in accordance with the requirements of Part 3 of Article 2 of Title 42, C.R.S.
   • A valid U.S. Passport
   • A valid employee identification card with a photograph of the eligible elector issued by any branch, department, agency, or entity of the United States government or of this state, or by any county, municipality, board, authority, or other political subdivision of this state
   • A valid pilot's license issued by the Federal Aviation Administration or other authorized agency of the United States
   • A valid U.S. Military identification card with a photograph of the eligible elector
   • A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document that shows the name and address of the elector.
   • A valid Medicare or Medicaid card issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (formerly the United States Health Care Financing Administration)
   • A certified copy of a U.S. Birth certificate for the elector issued in the United States
   • Certified documentation of naturalization
   • A valid student identification card with a photograph of the eligible elector issued by an institute of higher education in Colorado, as defined in section 23-3.1-102(5), C.R.S.
   • A valid veteran identification card issued by the United States department of veterans affairs veterans health administration with a photograph of the eligible elector
   • A valid identification card issued by a federally recognized tribal government certifying tribal membership
   • Verification that a voter is a resident of a group residential facility
   • Verification that a voter is a person committed to the Department of Human Services and confined and eligible to register and vote.

   Any form of identification shall be considered identification ONLY if the address is in the state of Colorado.

5. How do I change my name, address or political party affiliation on my registration record?

   You may change your name, address or affiliation on your voter registration record by the following methods:

   Online at the Secretary of State's website 
   -OR-
   Complete, print and sign a voter registration form: English | Spanish

   You can return your signed Voter Registration Form via email, fax, or mail:

   You may also obtain a Voter Registration Form at most libraries, city/town clerk offices or at any Colorado Driver's License bureau.

   If you are unable to obtain a Voter Registration Form, you may submit a personal note containing: your name, birth date, old address, new address, signature and date of the request.

6. How do I cancel or withdraw my registration?

   You may cancel or withdraw your registration by the following methods:

   • Online at the Secretary of State's website
   • Call the Larimer County Elections Office, and we will mail you a Withdrawal Form.
   • Send a personal note containing:
     • Your name
     • Birth date
     • Address
     • Last 4 digits of your Social Security Number
     • Signature
     • The date of request

   You can return your signed request or Withdrawal Form via email, fax, or mail:

7. When can I vote?

   As of May 10, 2013, all registered, active voters in the State of Colorado will receive their ballot by mail for all elections.

8. Where can I vote?

   You may return your voted ballot by mail (postage rates apply), or you may hand-deliver your ballot to a Voter Service and Polling Center (VSPC) or designated drop-off location throughout Larimer County.

9. What if I make a mistake on my ballot?

   Call the Larimer County Elections Office for assistance, or visit a Voter Service and Polling Center (VSPC).

10. Can I change my political affiliation for the June 25, 2024 Election?

    Affiliation updates for the June 25, 2024 Election must be done by Monday, June 3, 2024. 

    You can view and update your political affiliation online. Your affiliation will be listed under the “Voter Details” tab.

    If you update your political affiliation between Monday, June 3, 2024 and Tuesday, June 25, 2024, it will not be updated until after the June 25, 2024 Election is certified by the Colorado Secretary of State.

    If you are currently unaffiliated, you can affiliate with a major party at a Voter Service and Polling Center (VSPC) until 7 PM on Election Day.

11. Why is there a secrecy sleeve with my mail ballot?

    Larimer County Elections is required, by law, to record which party's ballot each unaffiliated voter returns in Primary Elections. 

    As such, in Primary Elections, providing secrecy sleeves to unaffiliated voters helps us:

    • Provide important information for unaffiliated voters, and
    • Identify which party's ballot was returned while safeguarding voter anonymity.

12. How do I know the Larimer County received my ballot?

    You can check the status of your mail ballot through the following methods:

    • Look up your voter registration on the Colorado Secretary of State's website
    • Call the Larimer County Elections Office
    •  Use the orange stub on your ballot to track your ballot through BallotTrax.

    Note: Ballot tracking is only available for mail in ballots.

13. Are ADA accessible voting machines available?

    Yes. ADA accessible voting machines are available for use at all Voter Service and Polling Centers. For more information, please call the Larimer County Elections Office.

14. I am an overseas or military voter. What are my voting options?

    Details about the options available to you are on the Secretary of State's website.

    You can view or update your voter registration and vote or return your online ballot at the Colorado Secretary of State's website.

15. What should I do if I receive a ballot at my residence for someone who no longer lives there?

    Whether a former resident or a relative who has moved out – simply write “Return to Sender - No Longer at This Address” on the outside of the unopened envelope and return it in the mail.  Doing so helps keep the voter registration rolls clean.

16. What is a Special Congressional Vacancy Election, and why is one happening?

    A Special Congressional Vacancy Election was triggered by Congressman Ken Buck’s resignation from the 118th U.S. Congress - District 4 on March 22, 2024, prior to his term ending on January 3, 2025. Governor Jared Polis set June 25, 2024 as the date for a Special Congressional Vacancy Election to determine who will serve the rest of the unexpired partial term of office for Congressional District 4 (CD-4).

17. How does a Special Congressional Vacancy Election differ from a Primary Election?

    Both elections will be held on June 25, 2024. All registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, who live in CD-4 are eligible to vote in the Special Congressional Vacancy Election. However, your party affiliation will determine your eligibility to vote in the Primary Election. The Special Congressional Vacancy Election winner for CD-4 will serve a partial term in Congress from July 2024 to January 2025. Primary Election winners will compete in the November 2024 General Election.

18. How were the nominess for the Special Congressional Vacancy Election determined without a Primary Election?

    Colorado law allows for each political party to convene a vacancy committee through which they each selected a nominee to appear on the Special Congressional Vacancy Election ballot.

19. When will the winner of the Special Congressional Vacancy Election for CD-4 serve? When will the winner of the Primary Election for CD-4 serve?

    • The Special Congressional Vacancy Election winner will serve the rest of the unexpired partial term of office in the 118th U.S. Congress, starting in July 2024 and ending in January 2025.
    • Each Party’s Primary Election winners will appear as candidates on the November 2024 General Election ballot. That General Election will determine who will serve a full term in the 119th U.S. Congress, starting in January 2025 and ending in January 2027.

20. Why are some candidates in the Special Congressional Vacancy Election but not in the Primary Election for CD-4?

    Because these are two different races for different terms in Congress.

21. I am a registered voter in Larimer County, what will I receive for the June 25, 2024 Election?

    It depends! One of the following scenarios should apply to you:

    • I live in CD-4 and I am affiliated with the Democratic or Republican Party.
      • You will receive your Party’s Primary Election ballot. The Special Congressional Vacancy Election will appear on the back of your ballot.
    • I live in CD-4 and I am unaffiliated.
      • You will receive both the Democratic and Republican Party’s Primary Election ballots. You may mark and return only one ballot. The Special Congressional Vacancy Election will appear on the back of whichever ballot you choose to return.
    • I live in CD-4 and I am affiliated with a minor party.
      • You will receive a ballot with only the Special Congressional Vacancy Election.
    • I do not live in CD-4 and I am affiliated with the Democratic or Republican Party.
      • You will receive your Party’s Primary Election ballot.
    • I do not live in CD-4 and I am unaffiliated.
      • You will receive both the Democratic and Republican Party’s Primary Election ballots. You may mark and return only one ballot.
    • I do not live in CD-4 and I am affiliated with a minor party.
      • You will not receive a ballot for the June 25, 2024 Election.

22. How do I know if I live in CD-4 or my party affiliation?

    Look up your voter registration on the Secretary of State's website. 

    1. Enter your first and last name, zip code, and date of birth.
    2. Your party affiliation will be listed under the “Voter Details” tab.
    3. Your Congressional District will be listed under the “County & District Information” tab.

    The last day to change your party affiliation for the June 24, 2024 Election is June 3.
