Canada thistle is a perennial that spreads by creeping roots and seeds. The leaves are many lobed with spines at the tips of the lobes. The stem is void of any spines, which distinguishes it from Musk thistle that has spiney stems. It grows to a height of about 4 to 5 feet. The plant has a variety of shades of green; from light green to almost gray in color. The flowers are white, pink to lavender in color.
