Common Questions About Credit Card Payments

Q. What types of payments can be made?

A. Only current year tax payments will be accepted.

Q. What time of the year can I make a payment with my credit card?

A. Payments will be accepted from January 1st through August 31st each year. To confirm the correct amount due, please call the Larimer County Treasurer's office at 970-498-7020.

Q. What information will I need to have available to make a credit card payment?

A. Name, mailing address, phone number, credit card number/exp date, Schedule number and zipcode of the property the payment will be applied to.

Q. Is there a fee? If so, how much?

A. Yes, there is a 2.5% fee on the tax amount. For example, if your taxes are $1,000 the convenience fee will be $25.00. However, if your total tax amount is $40 or less, the fee is just $1.

Q. Why do I have to pay a fee?

A. Official Payments Corporation charges a "convenience fee" for processing the transaction and covering the operating costs associated with servicing the transactions. The fee is not charged by Larimer County, nor does Larimer County receive any part of it. By state statutes, the County government is not allowed to charge or receive any part of a fee for credit card payment transactions.

Q. Will I receive confirmation of my credit card payment?

A. Yes. You will be provided a confirmation number at the end of the payment transaction. The confirmation number and your credit card statement will provide confirmation of your payment. After you submit your payment, you will be issued an onscreen receipt, which can be printed as a transaction record. Additionally, if you provide an email address, you will receive an email verification of your online payment. The email address must be entered before you submit your payment. Once you submit the payment, there is no opportunity to go back to edit, add or subtract any information.

Q. How can I be sure that my payment was processed correctly?

A. 72 hours after you have made the credit card payment, you may call the Larimer County Treasurer's office at 970-498-7020 or go to the Property Taxes Database on the Larimer County Treasurer's home page and confirm that your property tax payment has been posted to your tax account.

Q. Who do I call if my payment does not appear on my credit card statement and/or the Treasurer's Office does not receive the payment?

A. Official Payments Customer Service at 1-800-487-4567.

Q. Can I make a payment for the incorrect amount on a credit card?

A. The credit card system cannot verify the correct amount due. If you input a partial or insufficient payment, the payment will be rejected by the Treasurer's Office and credited back to your credit card. The payment must be for the exact amount due. It is best to confirm the amount due before making the credit card payment.

Q. How do I confirm the correct amount due prior to making a credit card payment?

A. To confirm the correct amount due, please call the Larimer County Treasurer's office at 970-498-7020.
