Description:
We are planning a polar bear plunge philanthropy event for Colorado State Greek Life. Contestants will enter the event, which will raise money for a local cause, and will jump into the cold resovoir. The event is sponsored by Colorado States Fraternites and Sororites. Contestants will enter the event at their own will and will be required to sign a legal waiver. The waiver will be drafted with help of CSU Legal Services. We have already contacted rescue SCUBA divers, lifeguards, and registered EMT's about being there for safety issues. Also, we are planning on getting an ambulance on site for the event. We would like to jump off a dock where the contestants can get out of the water quickly and have an easy exit. The contestants must register for the event early so anyone jumping into the water will have signed a waiver. Spectators will be from all over the community. We are hoping to get community support and we are planning on donating all funds raised to a local cause in the community. This is a new event for Colorado State Greek life and we are very open to suggestions on how to make this event succesful and possible.

Attahced is the waiver for the event. Also, I am in contact with divers that I know personally in the area about donating there time to the event. I will let you know when I have contacted them. We have just contacted the ambulance and are sheduling an ambulance on site with them. Finally, we have the insurance, I am just needing a copy of the certificate sent to me. Hope this all helps Andrea Brock

Just a note, we are working at getting a police officer at the event breathalyzing the contestants before they enter the water. This is for liability and safety, alcohol can speed up hypothermia and shock in cold water and we dont want an added risk. This is not to get anyone in trouble, just keep us all safe! I have contacted Fort Collins PD about this and will provide more details when I hear back from them

I contacted Gene with Dive Rescue today and we have started working out the best way to handle the event with divers.
Comments: Thank you for additional information. Please be sure that all event staff are familiar with emergency medical and communications plans prior to the start of the event
Comments: Spoke with Andrea at length about event and realistic Dive requirments. Our involvement from a Dive Operation perspective may not be possible. We can be on scene, in a Safety Operations capacity. We are approving this event based on safety measures being in place as discussed.
Comments: 10/15/09: Application has been forwarded to area manager for review. Comments from Mark Caughlan, District Manager- The dates and times are fine. Mark will call and discuss medical requirements and fees.
11/09/09 - Spoke with Andrea today and worked out medical and dive details. The event is good to go from my stand point.
