The Larimer County Landfill is offering free mulch to the public on a first come, first served basis. For current mulch information dial 498-5770, press 1 for landfill, then 6 for mulch. This script will be removed when we run out of free mulch. We do not anticipate running out of mulch until late fall. During the holiday season, the landfill had accepted Christmas trees for recycling from county residents. In addition, the landfill has been keeping clean loads of tree branches separate from other waste over the last several months. Recently, the landfill hired a contractor to grind the Christmas trees and the branches, resulting in two large piles of mulch. The pine tree mulch, which is more acidic, has been piled separately from the other mulch; it is the southernmost pile. Both piles have been ground into smaller chunks than in previous years.
Residents are responsible for loading the mulch into their vehicles and can pick it up anytime Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Customers must also bring a tarp to cover the load of mulch for the ride home.
The Larimer County Landfill is located at 5887 S. Taft Hill Road, Fort Collins (about 2 miles south of Harmony Road).
