Kids' Summer Classes are Back!

Patty Packrat The Garbage Garage Education Center is hosting a variety of fun and educational activities this summer for kids aged 6 to 10 years old. Take a look below and sign up your children or students for one or more of these classes! Registration is free, but please sign up at least a week in advance. Limit 10 kids per class, so register early!

How to Register

To register, call (970) 498-5775 or e-mail the following information:

  • Adult contact name (parent/teacher)
  • Adult contact phone number
  • For each child registering:
    • Child's name
    • Child's age
    • Activity name, date and time

We will call you to confirm registration. Classes may be cancelled if fewer than four kids are registered, in which case we will call you at least two days in advance of the class date.

We will provide all the needed supplies.

Trash Trackers
Where DOES the trash go? We'll learn about the route it takes and play a Trash Tracking game.

Smart Shoppers
Go shopping and learn how to be a smart shopper. We'll provide the money!

See Gulls
Are those seagulls I see? Learn about the birds that visit the landfill. Make an origami gull.

The Landfill Has Gas!
Learn about methane, what causes it, and why it's a problem.

Making Music
We'll use trash to make musical instruments for our own band.

Ride the Water Cycle
Make waves as you learn about the water cycle and pollution.

Patty Packrat Puppetry
Join Patty and her friends as they go on a recycling adventure. Make your own puppet to take home.

Paper or Plastic?
Do you know the answer? Learn more about plastics, how they are made and which ones can be recycled. Bring a plastic bottle for an experiment.

Archaeology 101
Dig into the past by exploring a miniature landfill. Take home a treasure.

Directions to the Garbage Garage

The Garbage Garage is located at the Larimer County Landfill, 5887 S. Taft Hill Road, Fort Collins. It's the building directly south of the entrance lanes/gatehouses (north of the recycling drop-off area). Please park here. See map.

From Fort Collins:
Take S. Taft Hill Road, go past Harmony Road. The landfill is about 2 miles south of Harmony Rd. on the west side of the road.

From Loveland:
From Highway 34 (Eisenhower Blvd.), go north on Wilson Ave. Wilson turns into Taft Hill Road. Head towards Fort Collins, and the landfill will be on the west side of the road.

Garbage Garage Hours

Feel free to come a little early or stay a little late to browse through all the displays at the Garbage Garage! The center is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, visits can be scheduled for other times (Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) by calling (970) 498-5772.
