What is Chipseal?
A
Chipseal is a surface application used to maintain, protect and prolong the
live of an existing street or road. It will improve the skid resistance to
allow for a safer driving surface,
improve the overall appearance, provide a weatherproof membrane to repel moisture from damaging the base and extends the useful life of the existing pavement.
The Chipseal application is a three step process:

Once the excess chip has been removed a final coat of
asphalt sealant will be applied to provide additional waterproofing and
chip retention. This material will be tacky to the touch, until overnight
curing takes place. A water based asphalt is applied with a computerized
truck, followed by a machine that applies a thin layer of small rock called
'chip', which is set in place by rollers. This step moves fast and only
takes a few hours.

Within 24 to 72 hours of Step 1, street sweepers will remove excess 'chip' from
your street. Please drive slow to
prevent loose material from scattering.
