Within District Cost-Share Program

Background

The Larimer County Weed Control District promotes and encourages proper weed management practices on lands within the Weed Control District. Recognizing that the cost of weed management can be a deterrent to landowners in implementing management practices, we've established the following cost share program.

Eligible Lands

Only taxable lands lying entirely within the boundaries of the Larimer County Weed Control District are eligible for Weed District cost share funds.

Eligible Weed Species

ONLY Canada thistle, leafy spurge, musk thistle, spotted knapweed, Russian knapweed, diffuse knapweed, tamarisk, yellow toadflax and Dalmatian toadflax are eligible for cost share funds. See weed pictures and descriptions.

Details

The LCWD will reimburse for herbicide, mechanical methods (mowing/grazing), or a combination of both as follows:

  • Purchase an herbicide at a local retailer and apply for a 30% reimbursement of chemical costs used on infested areas up to $300.00 per year. Taxes, labor, adjuvants and equipment are not included in the chemical cost.
  • Use a mechanical method to mow/graze your noxious weeds. Pre-approval required. Call 970-498-5768 before you begin treatment. Take a picture of your before and after treatments and send in your application for $10.00 per acre reimbursement, up to $200.00 per year.
  • Use both a mechanical method and herbicide. Apply for a 40% reimbursement up to $300.00 per year. Pre-approval required. Call 970-498-5768 before you begin treatment.
  • Residents over the age of 65 qualify for a 45% reimbursement up to $400.00 per year.

Limitations

  • NO glyphosate (Roundup), bare-grounding products, or products with a crop, turf or ornamental label will be reimbursed.
  • NO crop, turf, or ornamental sites will be reimbursed.
  • Properties enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) are not eligible.
  • Taxes, labor, and equipment are not eligible for reimbursement.
  • BEFORE mechanical treatment, property owners must call the LCWD at 970-498-5768.
  • Eligible Weed Species are only: Canada thistle, leafy spurge, Russian knapweed, diffuse knapweed, spotted knapweed, musk thistle, tamarisk, Dalmatian toadflax, and yellow toadflax.
  • Applications must be received by December 10 at the end of the season and are dependent on fund availability.
  • Previous years receipts cannot be reimbursed.

Mechanical methods (mowing and grazing) MUST be pre-approved by our office prior to implementation. Call us at (970) 498-5768 to get pre-approval. Cost-Share requests for mowing that have not pre-qualified with out office WILL NOT be reimbursed.

Treatment Information

  • Mechanical treatment refers to the process of mowing or weeding either by hand, animal grazing, or machine (mower).
  • Chemical control is the process of applying an herbicide, in the appropriate amounts, to the noxious weed. Timing and application rate are crucial for successful control. Again, application rate is critical; MORE DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN BETTER CONTROL. Always read the label when applying an herbicide. Find out more information on how to calibrate your sprayer.
