Wildlife

Mule deer, elk, and coyote are frequent visitors to Rimrock Open Space which is part of the Devil's Backbone trail system.  Keep your eyes open for the occasional red fox.  There is a thriving prairie dog colony on the property.  A bobcat was seen along the trail near the prairie dog colony.

Wildflowers

You will be able to see sand lilies, penstemon, sunflowers, yucca, yellow salsify, western blue flax, evening primroses, wild onions, cinquefoil, field chickweed, wavyleaf dandelion, yellow montane violets, and locoweed. 

Trail Conditions

The trails at Rimrock Open Space are open and in good shape.  There are a few steep areas which have steps where riders may have to dismount.  Please use caution in these areas.

Raptor/Bird Sightings

Red-tailed hawks, ravens, prairie falcons, great horned owls, and American kestrels are frequent visitors to the area.  Also, a golden eagle pair is often seen hunting in the area of the prairie dog colony.
