Wildlife
This open space is a great place to see elk and mule deer throughout the year. Coyotes frequent the area, and wild turkey tracks have been spotted along the trail. An occassional mountain lion and bear track can be found.
Wildflowers
You can see the sand lily, pasqueflower, wild rose, mountain mahogany, larkspur, western wallflower, narrowleaf bluebell, spring beauty, wild iris, locoweed, American vetch, and sugarbowl.
Trail Conditions
The Shoshone and Besant trails are open and in good shape. Bring your fishing rod and enjoy some fishing along the Besant Point trail.
Raptor/Bird Sightings
Ravens, crows, red-tailed hawks, spotted towhees, yellow-breasted chats, lesser and American goldfinches, rock wrens, chipping sparrows, lark sparrows, pygmy nuthatches, downy woodpeckers, wood pewees, common mergansers, and the occasional golden eagle have been spotted along the trails and reservoir. An osprey was seen soaring over the reservoir.
Two osprey nesting platforms have been recently installed on the south side of the reservoir as part of an Eagle Scout project.
