Property: River Bluffs Open Space
Priority Area: Poudre River Valley Priority Area
Size: 161 acres
This property is not open to the public. It has a combination of riparian corridor, wetlands, agricultural fields, and bluffs, which create a diverse plant and animal habitat. It is also the site of an old oxbow formed by the near by Cache La Poudre River. This oxbow was abandoned in the late 60s or early 70 when the river was channeled to build a bridge across it. The Frank State Wildlife Area, a mule deer winter concentration area, is nearby and there is expectation that this open space will also become recognized as a sanctuary for wintering mule deer. Jacoby Open Space is currently recognized by the Colorado Division of Wildlife as a significant duck winter range.
This property does not have public access at this time. It is envisioned to play a part in the Poudre River Regional Trail and is anticipated to have access in the future. This open space is currently undergoing weed mitigation and habitat restoration.
