Weather
The weather can change quickly this time of year. Bring along enough warm clothes and food and water to ensure your safety during cold weather and possible weather changes.
Wildlife
Mule deer, elk and sometimes bears can be seen. An occasional big horn sheep has been seen passing through the open space.
Raptor/Bird Sightings
Nearly every day you will see the resident red-tailed hawks and golden eagles hunting for rodents and rabbits that get to far out on the open, exposed areas.

Trail Conditions
Parts of both trail loops incorporate old ranch roads. Other portions of these ranch roads are not part of the trail system. Watch for the trail directional markers with the "3-Bar" and “OT” trail symbols on them, and please don’t go on the roads with “NO PUBLIC ACCESS” signs. Snow and melting snow this time of year can create muddy conditions. Please stay on trail, and do not walk or ride around the mud to avoid it, this can cause damage to the trails.
Fishing
Fishing is permitted year round approximately 900 feet upstream from the bridge to the private property line. There is private property up and down river of Eagle’s Nest Open Space. Please honor the “NO TRESPASSING” signs. Remember, a valid fishing license is required, and we recommend using only artificial lures and to practice "catch and release".
Hunting
Archery and muzzleloader hunting are allowed on Eagle's Nest Open Space during the regular 2009 deer and elk archery and muzzle-loading rifle seasons, starting in August. Access to U.S. Forest Service land west of Eagle's Nest Open Space will be allowed during the regular 2009 archery, muzzle-loading rifle, and rifle seasons. Small game hunting is not allowed at Eagle’s Nest Open Space. Archery season is August 29th through September 27th.
Hunters must sign in and sign out at the trailhead and National Forest Access points. Please know the regulations for hunting in open space areas. Regulation brochures are available at each trailhead.
