Map of Larimer County Campgrounds

Larimer County Department of Natural Resources, which includes Carter Lake, Horsetooth Reservoir, Flatiron Reservoir, Pinewood Reservoir, and Hermit Park Open Space, is open for camping on a regular seasonal basis. Amenities such as campground restrooms, shower houses, and RV dump stations will be available seasonally as well. Same day camping reservations are allowed during regular business hours at our visitor centers.

The following is NOT allowed or remains closed:

  • Secondary units at campsites such as additional RVs, 5th wheels trailers, pop-ups, etc. (additional tents are allowed)***
  • After-hours, walk-up camping without a reservation

***To limit natural resource damage and to help ensure a quality camping experience for all visitors, no secondary units are allowed at any Larimer County campsite.  A secondary unit or “piggyback” can be defined as parking and occupying an additional RV, fifth wheel, trailer, or pop-up camper to a single camping reservation/site. Each reservation is for one camping unit only (any wheeled unit to sleep in) per site. If a camping unit is being utilized, an additional two tents are allowed. If there is no camping unit (any wheeled unit to sleep in) being utilized, two tents are allowed at Hermit Park sites, and up to four tents are allowed at all other locations if the tents fit within the boundaries of the site's footprint.

Recommended Precautions:

  • Feeling sick? Stay home if anyone in your household is sick, such as fever, coughing, or shortness of breath
  • Practice social distancing - keep SIX feet between other visitors not in your own household and don’t congregate at overlooks, rest areas, or trailheads
  • Wear a mask to protect yourself and others when six feet of distance cannot be maintained, such as heavily populated parking lots and trail junctions
  • Camp only with members of your household from your local region while being mindful of campsite group maximums. Do not invite visitors to your campsite.
  • Only use personal equipment for camping (no rentals or “loaned” items) when possible
  • Secure food, water, gas, and any other needed camping supplies in your home community before arriving if feasible
  • Be prepared to pack out trash and waste if facility access is limited
  • Bring needed cleaning supplies to perform frequent cleaning of high-touch surfaces
  • Bring personal alcohol-based hand sanitizer for use during your stay
  • Do not engage in remote or risky activities that may put a burden on first responders
  • Follow all local county regulations and fire bans
