US 34 in the Big Thompson Canyon will close at Idlewild Lane Wednesday January 29th at 9p.m., until Thursday, January 30 at accommodate the replacement of the Idlewild Lane bridge girders over the Big Thompson River. The overnight closure location is at mile marker 78, roughly two miles east of Drake.
This is a complete closure and no through traffic will be allowed. There will be lane closures in place at this location beginning at 7:00 p.m., in advance of the full closure. The detour route between Loveland and Estes Park is on US 287, SH 66, and then US 36 through Lyons.
The work supports Larimer County’s flood recovery efforts. A large crane will lift new bridge girders into place to re-connect the Idlewild area with US 34.
Roadside variable message signs in the vicinity will provide the latest information on the closure. To receive real-time updates about road conditions in your area, and click on the green cell phone icon in the upper right hand corner of the page.
