April Guided Hikes and Programs on Larimer County Open Spaces

 Let’s G.O. (Get Outside)

Let’s G.O.!  is a youth-inspired, youth-led Children & Nature Network initiative to rally people of all ages to Play, Serve, and Celebrate. Participate by checking out Larimer County Natural Resources’ events flyer or visiting www.childrenandnature.org/letsgo
 
Guided Hikes and Events
·         Wednesdays, April 3 and 17  “Nature Notes Club Meeting” Join the Nature Notes Club for its regular March meetings. You’ll get the chance to journal in the vein of Leopold or Muir with this fun group of people. This program will be stationary with some easy walking. Approximately 3-hour program. Please dress appropriately for the weather, and bring along all of your journaling supplies. Nature Notes meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, usually during the day. ·         Saturday, April 6 at 12:00 p.m. “Picnic on the Poudre”  Join us atMagpie Meander Natural Area (west end of Hickory Street in Fort Collins) with your family to learn about and participate in activities that are all about exploring nature! Activities will be led in English and Spanish. Free for all and lunch is provided! Stop by anytime between noon and 4 p.m. No registration needed, but RSVP appreciated. Please RSVP to Nicole Stafford at (970) 491-1661.
 
·         Monday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m. “Tiny Trekkers: Bird Beak Buffet” Join Larimer County Naturalists for a special program designed for your toddler and you. This program at Devil’s Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland, off of Hwy. 34, will be a morning filled with crafts, stories, and fun facts! A parent or guardian must accompany the child for this hour-long program. After the program, feel free to explore the open space with your child! Program is free. No registration required. Please direct questions to Heather at (970) 679-4489. This event is part of Let’s G.O.! (Get Outside).


 
·         Saturday, April 20 at 9:30 a.m. “Bear Necessities” Join former Veterinarian and County Naturalist Bob for a captivating presentation about local bruins that ranges from their habits to habitats at Devil’s Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland, off of Hwy. 34. Learn the best ways to avoid trouble with bears and all about their lifestyle. Hike rating: easy    Program is free, but registration is required. Please go to www.larimer.org/NRregistration to sign up. Approximately 2-hour program. Please direct questions to Heather at (970) 679-4489.
 
·         Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. “Hey Kids! Spring is Here!” Discover what’s in bloom at Devil’s Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland, off of Hwy. 34 with Naturalists Caroline and Jay. Bring your 5-to-10-year old, nature-loving kids to learn some signs of the new season, and have fun doing it! There’s no better way to spend the afternoon with your little ones than getting them out into the sun and learning about nature. A parent or guardian must accompany the child on the hike. Approximately 1.5-hour hike. Hike rating: easy. Program is free, but registration is required. Please go to www.larimer.org/NRregistration to sign up. ·         Monday, April 22 at 10:00 a.m. “Tiny Trekkers: Animal Homes” Celebrate Earth Day with Larimer County Naturalists for a special program designed for your toddler and you. This program at Devil’s Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland, off of Hwy. 34, will be a morning filled with crafts, stories, and fun facts! A parent or guardian must accompany the child for this hour-long program. After the program, feel free to explore the open space with your child! Program is free. No registration required. ·         Friday, April 26 at 9:00 a.m. "Take It Outside with Your Commissioner" Hike at Devil’s Backbone Open Space with Commissioner Tom Donnelly and Open Lands Program Manager Kerri Rollins. This informal opportunity to visit with an elected official will give you the chance to ask anything you'd like about the county in a spectacular outdoor setting. Come on out and get to know Tom and Kerri! Hike rating: easy Please bring water for the trail and dress appropriately for the weather. Approximately 2-hour program. ·         Saturday, April 27 at 9:30 a.m. “Wildflowers of Devil’s Backbone” Discover what’s in bloom at Devil’s Backbone Open Space, located just west of Loveland, off of Hwy. 34. Join Naturalist Cathy for a fun-filled morning exploring the beautiful spring flowers. Approximately 2-hour hike. Hike rating: easy. Program is free, but registration is required.
