The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 909 attended the Law Enforcement Explorers Post Advisors Association of Colorado (LEEPAAC) regional conference held last week at Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Colorado. The conference was attended by explorers representing agencies from Colorado, Arizona, Texas, and Oklahoma.
Larimer County Sheriff's Office Explorer Scout Ben Gurwin received one of four academic scholarships that are given at the conference.
The explorers spent the week competing in events that mirror activities conducted by the men and women of law enforcement on a daily basis. Post 909 members were placed into teams with explorers from other programs during this event. Post 909 members brought home the following awards:
1st place in Officer Down Rescue and High Risk Entry
2nd place in Constitutional Law and Crime Scene Investigation
3rd place in Crime Scene Investigation, Pedestrian Contacts and High Risk Traffic Stops
4th place in Constitutional Law, Crime Scene Investigation and Officer Down Rescue
5th place in Public Information Officer
Explorer Scout Sophia Christopherson also took first place in the obstacle course, female division.
The following explorers attended the conference: Brendan Solano, Jensyn Reece, Rhiannon Valdez, Sonya Ortega, Zack Anderson, Jenny Daknis, Sophia Christopherson, Ben Gurwin, Josh Carroll, Josiah Burk, and Jeff Goetz. The Post advisor is Larimer County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Marc Weber.
