Bill Dellenbach presents $13,000 check to Posse Captain Mike Keirns

Bill Dellenbach of Dellenbach Motors in Fort Collins presented a $13,000 check today to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office Posse as a thank you for the work they did during the High Park Fire. Mr. Dellenbach told Sheriff Justin Smith it was "an amazing process how you took care of the evacuees."

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office Posse provided over 2,000 hours of volunteer time, donated by 27 different Posse members, to assist evacuees of the High Park Fire in removing and tending to their livestock. Over 600 animals were cared for at the Ranch during the duration of the fire.

In addition to taking care of the livestock housed at the Ranch, Posse members also provided food and water to those animals that were not able to be removed from the fire area. At one point the Posse even had an old-fashioned cattle drive to move cattle to a safer area within the burn zone.

Sheriff Smith said, "Time and time again, the Posse steps up to help the citizens of Larimer County. Their help during the High Park Fire was invaluable to the citizens and the county."

In addition to volunteering their time, Posse members personally invest a lot to provide their own equipment, horses and transportation to be prepared to help the community during emergencies.

Records show that Posses have been used to cover Larimer County's 2650 square miles since the 1880's. Our current Posse was organized in 1956 and has continually served the citizens of Larimer County since then.
