Community at Work

Community at Work is a weekly radio program on KRFC, 88.9 FM, that provides insight into issues that affect our communities by providing a closer look at the public agencies serving you.

This ½ hour show, Thursday evenings at 5:30 pm, is hosted by Larimer County, City of Fort Collins, the Health District of Northern Larimer County, and the US Forest Service on a rotating basis. Larimer County's show is hosted by Community Information Manager Deni La Rue.

Each week, the host of Community at Work will interview guests about a topic that is relevant to our communities.

Past and Future Larimer County Shows

• November 5 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks with Larimer County Manager Frank Lancaster and Budget Director Bob Keister about the Proposed 2010 Larimer County Budget. Public hearings get underway in a little more than a week so this is a great time for citizens to become familiar with what is being proposed. • October 1 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks with Larimer County Rural Land Use Center Director Linda Hoffmann about the Horse Business Facilities Regulations study underway at Larimer County. Listen to the MP3 recording
• September 3 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks with Larimer County Office on Aging Program Manager Margaret Long and citizen member of the Office on Aging Advisory Council Earl Stevens about current programs. Listen to the MP3 recording
• August 6 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks with Rob Novak, Education Program Coordinator for Larimer County's Open Lands and Sue Schafer with the City of Fort Collins about the 5th Annual Northern Colorado Birding Fair taking place on Saturday, September 26, (7am-1pm) at the Fossil Creek Regional Open Space.
• July 2 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks with Larimer County Health Department Health Education Supervisor Jane Viste about 'all things health'. We'll hear updates on West Nile to H1N1. Listen to the MP3 recording
• June 4 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks with Rob Novak, Education Program Coordinator for Larimer County's Open Lands Program and Zoe Whyman, City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Community Relations Manager. The topic is the grand opening on June 6 & 7 of Red Mountain Open Space (owned and managed by Larimer County) and Soapstone Prairie Natural Area (owned and managed by the City of Fort Collins). • April 2 - On this edition of Community at Work, Larimer County Community Information Manager Deni La Rue talks with Laurel Kubin, the Director of the County's Extension Office for CSU-Larimer County Extension. • March 5 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks with Lynette McGowan, Larimer County's Caregiver Support Coordinator, about 'Powerful Tools for Caregivers', a six-week class beginning March 31, and offered by Larimer County's Office on Aging, Poudre Valley Health System's Aspen Club, and Collinwood Assisted Living.
• February 5 - On this edition of Community at Work the topic is 'jobs and employment'. Deni La Rue talks with two experts from the Larimer County Workforce Center: Lew Wymisner, Assistant Director and Maureen Harter, Employment Center Manager. A discussion on the status of employment in our region as well as a look at the services available to citizens through the Workforce Center takes place. Listen to the MP3 recording
• January 29 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks with Larimer County's two newest Commissioners Tom Donnelly and Steve Johnson. Both men were sworn-in just two weeks ago. La Rue will ask about their job impressions so far and the issues they see for the year. • December 4 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks with Carla Felts, Foster Care Services Program Supervisor for Larimer County's Department of Human Services about the need for foster and adoptive homes for teens in Larimer County.
