Community at Work is a weekly radio program on KRFC, 88.9 FM, that provides insight into issues that affect our communities by providing a closer look at the public agencies serving you.

This ½ hour show, Thursday evenings, 6-6:30 p.m., is hosted by Larimer County's Community Information Manager Deni La Rue, the Health District of Northern Larimer County, and the City of Fort Collins on a rotating basis.

Each week, the host of Community at Work will interview guests about a topic that is relevant to our communities.

Awards for Community At Work

On March 7, 2015, the Colorado Broadcasters Association awarded Deni La Rue as part of a 'Team' a 1st place award for 'Best News/Talk Show Host or Team' in a major market for Community at Work at KFRCfm. La Rue rotates the weekly show with 2 other hosts: Richard Cox/Health District and Bob Overbeck/Fort Collins.

On July 13, 2014, Larimer County received a 2014 'Excellence' Award for Larimer County's Community at Work program in the 'podcasts' category from NACIO, the National Association of County Information Officers.

On March 8, 2014, the Colorado Broadcasters Association, CBA, awarded Deni La Rue a 1st place award for 'Best Talk Show Host', major market category, for Community at Work at KFRCfm, and a 2nd place place award for 'Public Affairs Program - KRFC/Community at Work'.

Community at Work received a 2007 Golden Microphone Award from KRFCfm for Outstanding Programming.

The National Association of County Information Officers, NACIO, awarded Community at Work a "Meritorious Award" in their Awards of Excellence 2005 competition.

  • May 14, 2015 – On this edition of Community at Work, Larimer County’s Deni La Rue talks with Alison Stoven O'Connor, Larimer County/CSU Extension Horticulture Agent who is the Coordinator of the Master Gardener Program and the oldest Farmer’s Market in Larimer County… now in its 40th year!!! We'll also hear from Assistant Farmer's Market Manager Micaela Truslove. The Larimer County Farmer’s Market is held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. - noon and runs May 16 - Oct. 24?, 2015, in Old Town Fort Collins at the Larimer County Courthouse Offices Bldg., parking lot, 200 W.   • April 9, 2015 – On this edition of Community at Work, Larimer County’s Deni La Rue talks with Tim Hand, Director of Larimer Community Corrections and Sharon Winfree Program Manager of Auditing and Program Development for Larimer County’s Criminal Justice Services Division. The impetus for this show is that Sharon Winfree is the recipient of the 37th Annual Judge Conrad L. Ball Award which honors those who support justice in Larimer County. She will be presented with the award on Wednesday, April 22 at the Fort Collins Country Club with former Governor Bill Ritter as the evening’s keynote speaker. In this interview we hear about Sharon’s job and past work; about Community Corrections from Tim Hand; about collaboration in criminal justice and what ‘justice’ means to both Winfree and Hand.   • March 12, 2015 – On this edition of Community at Work, we take a look at several services for youth at our Larimer County Workforce Center. My guests are Andrew Minor, Youth Career Specialist and Dan Gagnon also a Youth Career Specialist.   • February 12, 2015 – On this edition of Community at Work Deni La Rue, Larimer County Public Information Manager, takes a look at LC101, a 9-week, free class introducing Larimer County residents to County services and the people who provide them. Deni's guests are Jason Smith a Fort Collins resident who went through the class in 2011, the 2nd year, and Tom Clayton, Larimer County Public Information Office, who assists with the annual program.   • January 8, 2015 – On this edition of Community at Work - we take a look at this year’s influenza outbreak with Dr. Adrienne LeBailly, Director of Larimer County’s Department of Health and Environment and Susanne Murray, communicable disease nurse within the same department. We'll talk about: The influenza outbreak this year as compared with other years and why this year is worse than some previous years; what are the flu symptoms and how long is the flu season typically; hospitalizations, deaths, at risk persons, immunizations, Tamiflu, washing hands, and staying at home when sick.
