Open Lands Program Intern

Department: Larimer County Parks and Open Lands Program: Open Lands
Location: The Bison Visitor Center

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with the administration of the Open Lands Program within the Larimer County Parks and Open Lands Department, under the direction and supervision of both the Fund Development & Outreach Specialist and the Manager of the Open Lands Program.
  • Assist Open Lands Ranger, Resource Specialist, Parks Ranger, Education Coordinator, Weed Control Specialist, Special Projects and Trail Crew as needed.
  • Assist Resource Specialist in preparing baseline reports for open space properties and compile resource inventories of plant and animal communities, endangered and threatened animals, historic and geologic sites, etc.
  • Assist in the Small Grants Program administration, including preparing materials, working with applicants and Open Lands Advisory Board members, managing the grant disbursements and follow up.
  • Assist with writing and planning of grant applications, Annual Reports, newsletters and other publications.
  • Organize, assist and participate on field trips/site visits of open lands acquisitions and projects for the media, County Commissioners and the Open Lands Advisory Board.
  • Gather and analyze data related to assigned projects, conduct research, prepare reports, and recommendations.
  • Assist in preparing for and organizing conferences, presentations, meetings, continuing education seminars, and photo displays.
  • Develop, organize, assist and participate in public outreach events
  • Assist in the design and presentation of information to the public including maps, photos, display boards, brochures, flyers, slide and video presentations.
  • Assist with updating web site information (www.larimer.org/naturalresources/openlands).
  • Assist with general administrative procedures (data base entry, filing, organizing literature references).

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Attends Open Lands Advisory Board meetings and bi-weekly staff meetings.
