Computer Graphic Designer Volunteer Expectations

Program: Open Lands, Administration and Volunteer programs
Location: Work at home or at The Bison Visitor Center
Reports to: Program Supervisor

  • Database Entry
  • Graphic Designer (must have experience)
  • Power Point Presentations (must have experience)

ROLE

A volunteer who works on computers donates their time helping staff in any of the following areas: entering data in one or more departmental database programs, design promotional, educational or program brochures, logos, T-shirts, event flyers, or updating our websites, and last of all assisting staff in the creation of PowerPoint presentations. This work can be done at home except for the database entry.

DUTIES

Duties vary, but can be a combination of the following:

  • Inputting data in one or more departmental databases.
  • Have experience if interested in computer graphic design projects
  • Be prepared to show samples of your work
  • Receive design assignments and review/coordinate with staff for understanding
  • Produce and deliver desired graphics to staff in requested media or electronically for printers
  • Communicate promptly and effectively with County staff

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Be an experienced computer graphic designer able to compose and execute promotional or educational materials, graphics for websites and build PowerPoint presentations on an "as needed" basis
  • Be capable of delivering designs properly marked and in the media form requested by staff
  • Meet design deadlines for the project(s) you accept
  • Learn the Parks and Open Spaces areas locations well enough to take properly oriented photos
  • Friendly and courteous to staff and other volunteers
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with County staff and other Volunteers
  • Communicate effectively
  • Provide own transportation
  • Complete volunteer orientation and training as needed
  • Knowledge of production process to prepare electronic files for printer.

PARKS AND OPEN LANDS RESPONSIBILITY

  • Organize, direct and schedule volunteers in an efficient and timely manner
  • Provide necessary equipment, supplies and supervision
  • Reimburse volunteer for out of pocket expenses (need to be discussed in advance)
  • Provide feedback to volunteers
  • Recognize and reward volunteers as valued team members

VOLUNTEER'S RESPONSIBILITY

  • Be able to start work without additional training and after orientation and initial meeting with key staff
  • Present yourself in a professional manner in behavior and dress
  • Be prepared for your first assignment
  • Provide excellent customer service to staff and other volunteers
  • Follow through and meet deadlines
  • Keep accurate record of time worked on forms provided and turn them in on a monthly basis
  • Be on time (call in if can't make it on scheduled work days, or can't turn in assignment by a previously agreed to time)
  • Provide own transportation to visitor center

  • Driving to and from the Visitor Center
