Effective January 1, 2007, gasoline vehicles are no longer required to have a basic emissions test to be used in Larimer, Weld, or El Paso counties. If the vehicle is used over 90 days a year in the Enhanced areas, (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson County) an Enhanced emissions test is required. Please see the Air Care Colorado website at www.aircarecolorado.com for information.
New diesel vehicles sold after October 1, 1994 with an MSO will receive a two year exemption from required annual emission test.
New light duty diesel vehicles sold after July 1, 2007, with a manufacturer's statement of origin, will receive a four year emission exemption. However, if the vehicle is sold within the first four years, an emissions test will be required as part of the transaction if there is less than 12 months left on the current emission test. A two year test will be required after the exemption period on vehicles until they reach their 10th year of service and then the test will be an annual test.
Questions regarding the performance of the emission test or testing standards should be directed to the State Emission Section at (303) 205-5603, or call our local emission Technical Center at (970) 221-5324. Office hours for the Technical Center are Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
