In Office
To avoid any extended delays, when submitting a renewal, please be sure to include the following:
- EMISSIONS TESTS are required on diesel vehicles. Effective January 1, 2007, gasoline vehicles are no longer required to have a basic emissions test to be used in Larimer, Weld, or El Paso counties. Effective July 1, 2010, gasoline vehicles will again require Emissions testing for Larimer and Weld Counties. If the vehicle is used over 90 days a year in the Enhanced areas, (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson county) an Enhanced emissions test is required. Please see the Air Care Colorado website at www.aircarecolorado.com for information.
- Proof of insurance, if needed. (If needed it will be stated on the renewal card) In the event that the insurance information on your vehicle is not posted or is not current on the computer database, please send a copy of proof of insurance. This will help resolve these issues in a timelier manner.
- Payment, A signed check, made payable to "Larimer County Clerk" for the amount stated on the renewal card. If a renewal card has been received, but the license plates were not renewed before the end of the grace period, the amount shown on the renewal card will no longer be valid. Please call the Vehicle Licensing office at (970) 498-7878 to obtain the correct amount before mailing in the renewal or your renewal will be updated leaving your vehicle registration in the current registration cycle. Please include the late fee of $25.00 for each month for which the vehicle is not registered; except that the amount of the late fee shall not exceed $100.00 if the renewal request is received after the one month grace period following the expire date of the registration.
