                      POSITION TITLE:   PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE II - HALF-TIME POSITION WITH BENEFITS - MATERNAL HEALTH SERVICES PROGRAM

                          DEPARTMENT:   HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT

                 STARTING SALARY:   $1,817.75 - $2,181.31 PER MONTH (DOQ)

Under the supervision of a Nursing Supervisor, provides a variety of skilled nursing care and related services in the Maternal Health Services Program.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required.

·         Provide immunization and care coordination services for postpartum women and their families.

·         Provide interventions including postpartum education, infant care, and breastfeeding.

·         Provide appropriate select immunizations to family members and caregivers of infants.

·         Coordinate services with community resources to meet the needs of the families.

·         Identify health and psychosocial needs of clients and provide counseling and guidance.

·         Make home visits to work with postpartum women and newborns.

·         Maintain accurate and complete client files and records.

·         Serve as a resource to other community agencies and medical offices.

·         Interpret County and Health Department policies, rules, and regulations in response to inquiries; refer inquiries as appropriate.

·         Attend required meetings and conferences.

 

OTHER DUTIES:

·         Perform related duties as appropriate, including those on weekends and after usual work hours.

·         Interact within a service network to ensure access to affordable and appropriate services in a timely manner.

·         May provide clinical experience for nursing students.

·         Perform other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

·         General nursing knowledge, principles, practices, objectives, methods, and techniques in assigned area.

·         Current trends and developments in prenatal, postpartum, newborn care, parenting, and development.

·         Medical diagnosis, symptoms, and proper nursing measures in implementing appropriate care.

·         Immunization practices.

·         Medical and business software applications including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, databases, and other programs specific to assigned programs.

·         Scope and application of laws and regulations pertaining to public health nursing programs.

·         Working knowledge of community resources.

·         Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

 

ABILITY TO:

·         Perform duties independently without close supervision.

·         Work with high-risk individuals and families in a non-judgmental manner which inspires trust and respect.

·         Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, patients, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.

·         Maintain sensitive and confidential information.

·         Follow written and verbal instructions.

·         Develop individualized health plans, counsel clients, and assess client needs.

·         Prepare and maintain clear and concise charts and records.

·         Organize material and present information clearly and concisely in verbal and written form.

·         Analyze/access information and screenings accurately and take effective action.

·         Assist in maintaining reports required for grants management.

·         Perform CPR and respond in a medical emergency.

·         Effectively respond to conflict situations and people in conflict.

·         Read and comprehend department/division and County rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standard operation procedures.

·         Ability to speak and write in Spanish is desirable.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Education:

·         Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a school accredited by the National League of Nursing is required.

Experience:

·         One year of experience under nursing supervision, preferably in maternal and child health.

·         Previous experience in Public Health Nursing preferred, but not required.

·         English/Spanish bilingual desired, but not required.

License/Certificates:

·         Licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Colorado.

·         Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver’s License.

·         Maintain continuing education hours annually or as required and obtain certificates/training necessary for specific program.
