                     POSITION TITLE:   WIC EDUCATOR I

               POSITION NUMBER:   HAE.1394

                         DEPARTMENT:   HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT

                STARTING SALARY:   $12.74 - $14.33 PER HOUR (DOQ)

ENGLISH/SPANISH BILINGUAL REQUIRED

 

Requires working after usual working hours.  Currently every Tuesday evening and some Thursday evening clinics.

 

Travel to clinics in Loveland, Fort Collins and Estes Park to provide relief coverage for other WIC staff will be required.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·         Interview WIC applicants to determine financial, residential, and nutritional eligibility for the program.

·         Provide health screening (height, weight, and hemoglobin).

·         Assess diet and nutrition education needs of clients per protocol.

·         Provide nutrition education to clients.

·         Set nutrition goals with clients.

·         Issue WIC Food Instruments and schedule client appointments.

·         Input data and update client information using the computer.

·         Make referrals to other community resources.

·         Perform general clerical duties in support of daily WIC functions such as answering phones, filing, typing, restocking, and ordering office supplies, forms, and educational materials.

OTHER DUTIES:

·         Perform related duties as appropriate, including those on weekends and after usual work hours.

·         Travel to clinics in Loveland, Fort Collins and Estes Park to provide relief staff coverage as needed.

·         Perform other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

·         Basic principles of nutrition.

·         Cultural and socio-economic variances of the community.

·         Modern office practices and procedures.

·         Basic mathematical calculations.

·         Fluent in both English and Spanish languages.

Ability to:

·         Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and area community resources agencies.

·         Establish and maintain rapport with WIC participants.

·         Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing in both the English and Spanish languages.

·         Prepare and maintain clear and concise charts and records.

·         Maintain sensitive and confidential information.

·         Accomplish the assigned workload in a timely manner and meet established performance standards and objectives.

·         Perform basic data entry tasks.

Experience:

·         One year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities.

Training:

·         Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.

·         Associates Degree in Nutrition or related field highly desirable.

Licenses/Certifications:

·         Ability to successfully pass levels I, II, and III of the WIC Certification Program with a 90 percent score or above within 18 months of employment.

·         Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver’s License.

·         Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills required.

·         Ability to complete the State of Colorado WIC computer training.
