Performs a wide variety of
accounting clerical work involving the preparation, processing, maintenance, and
review of financial and statistical records, including the areas of accounts
payable, accounts receivable, and/or payroll.
Applicants will be
required to successfully complete all of the following prior to hire:
·
Written test.
·
Typing certification – Only
applicants who type 35 words per minute or greater will be considered for
hire. TYPING TEST WILL BE GIVEN.
·
Integrity and oral board
interviews.
·
In-depth background
investigations, including credit report and criminal history.
·
In depth medical exam,
including drug testing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
·
Participate in the preparation and
maintenance of accounts payable and accounts receivable documents, as well as
the control and account verification processes of the County's accounting
systems.
·
Prepare and process a variety of
bills and invoices.
·
Examine and verify that entries,
postings, and totals are accurate and supporting documents are included in
records.
·
Prepare and run necessary reports.
·
Post and maintain records of
expenditures and accounts according to established account classifications.
·
Collect payments over the counter
and through the mail.
·
Balance cash drawer and prepare
deposits.
·
Post a wide assortment of
information to records.
·
Maintain files of correspondence,
records, and other documents.
·
Prepare financial and statistical
reports.
·
Assist in the preparation of a
department payroll; prepare and provide appropriate records and figures to the
County's payroll section; maintain human resources files and employee records
for the assigned Department.
·
Prepare fiscal data for use in
budget preparation.
·
Maintain sick leave, vacation, and
overtime records.
·
Check and index invoices and
prepare for payment.
·
Respond to employee and citizen
complaints and inquiries.
·
Serve as a receptionist as
assigned.
·
Operate a computer terminal as
assigned; input data, and run and distribute appropriate reports.
·
Review and check records, forms,
and other documents for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to rules and
regulations.
·
Receive, sort, and distribute
incoming and outgoing mail; operate a calculator and other office appliances; perform
a variety of general clerical and typing work.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
·
Basic methods, terminology, and
practices of bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping.
·
Mathematical principles and
procedures.
·
Modern office practices and
procedures.
Ability to:
·
Perform difficult and responsible
clerical work.
·
Post financial data and make
accurate mathematical calculations.
·
Operate a ten-key calculator.
·
Type at a speed necessary for
adequate job performance.
·
Understand and carry out oral and
written instructions.
·
Communicate effectively orally, in
writing, and via various forms of electronic media.
·
Understand transcription tapes and
hear well on the telephone; have appropriate voice skills to
be clearly understood on the telephone
and in person.
·
Work under stressful situations,
such as receiving directives from several sources.
·
Must have cognitive skills and
awareness of work accuracy, ability to concentrate on more than one task at a
time, and make independent decisions.
EXPERIENCE AND
TRAINING: Any combination of
experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and
abilities is qualifying.
Experience:
·
One year of general clerical
experience with minor recordkeeping, in a directly related field, or in the
performance of similar duties and responsibilities.
Training:
·
Equivalent to the completion of
the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized bookkeeping course work.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL
REQUIREMENTS:
·
Must be able to clearly
distinguish specific colors and shades or hues of colors.
·
Must be able to sit up to two
hours at a time for a total of six and a half hours in an eight-hour shift.
·
Must be able to stand occasionally
throughout the day for a total of 30 minutes in an eight-hour shift.
·
Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel,
or squat occasionally throughout an eight-hour shift.
