The Larimer
County Youth Conservation Corps (LCYCC) provides summer employment
opportunities for youth ages 16-19 to support our local environment and
community. The LCYCC also provides corps member development activities to
enhance educational skills, strengthen citizenship and leadership capabilities,
and to foster an understanding and appreciation of diversity. The LCYCC
is operated within the Larimer County Workforce Center.
WE ANTICIPATE HIRING 3-4 CREW
LEADERS FOR SEASONAL, FULL-TIME POSITIONS. STARTING DATE IS TENTATIVELY MAY 12, 2008 AND ENDING DATE TENTATIVELY AUGUST 15, 2008.
The Crew
Leader is a temporary, seasonal, supervisory position managing an 8-10 person
team of 16-19 year old, young adults who perform various conservation projects
on public lands within the community. Daily duties include, but are not
limited to, promoting leadership, training, and motivating a team to
efficiently complete projects, implementing an environmental education
curriculum, building of job and life skills, and completing daily documentation
and evaluations following the policies and procedures of the LCYCC. Crew
Leaders work side-by-side with the youth to complete work projects in a variety
of weather conditions and terrain. Candidates must be available from May
12th through August
15th, 2008
and able to commit to a series of overnight work projects in Rocky Mountain National
Park.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
·
Train and
supervise a team of eight (8) young adults ranging in ages of 16-19 years old
on a daily basis, efficiently completing various conservation projects.
·
Manage and
monitor physical and emotional safety of the team.
·
Promote
leadership while encouraging the development of teamwork, self worth, conflict
resolution, effective communication, goal setting, decision making, and the
building of community.
·
Implement Larimer
County Youth Conservation Corps policies and procedures.
·
Accurate
completion of daily and weekly logs, time sheets, evaluations, incident
reports, etc.
·
Facilitate
teambuilding activities and environmental education curriculum on a weekly
basis, or as projects determine appropriate.
·
Work
side-by-side with youth completing work projects.
·
Coordinate
logistics with Project Sponsors, Program Coordinator, and Executive Director.
·
Drive a 12-15
passenger van safely, and provide a clean driving record.
OTHER
DUTIES:

Perform related
duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge
of:
·
Basic knowledge
of conservation techniques, construction, landscaping, and tool maintenance
preferred, but not required.
·
Excellent
leadership skills.
·
Excellent
organizational skills.
Ability
to:
·
Implement team
building activities, environmental education, and job and life skills.
·
Communicate
effectively, both orally and in writing.
·
Motivate and
encourage youth to work and persevere in difficult and physically challenging
work settings.

a variety of settings.

Have a sense of
adventure.

Work evenings
and weekends as necessary.
EXPERIENCE
AND TRAINING:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required
knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Experience:
·
One year of
experience working with youth in Outdoor Education field preferred, but not
required.
·
Managed conflict
in a group setting.
·
Worked in a team
environment providing leadership and direct oversight.
·
Experience
supervising a diverse youth group.
·
Experience
performing conservation-related service projects.
Training
·
Equivalent to
the completion of the twelfth grade.
·
A Bachelor’s
Degree in a related field preferred.
Licenses/Certificates:
·
Possession of
current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR
certificates preferred.
·
Possession of a
valid Colorado Driver’s License. Must provide a current DMV report
with application.
PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS:
·
Able to work in
adverse weather conditions.
·
Ability to
use/handle picks, sledge hammers, rakes, and shovels.
·
Ability to
transverse uneven terrain.
·
Ability to bend,
stoop, stretch, twist, or to squat to perform job tasks.
