NOTE:

Work schedule
available at the office of the Larimer County Parks and Open Lands Department. Schedules are subject to change
depending on weather and visitation.

16 – 40 hours
per week; depending upon position.
·
Applicants
will be required to undergo a background check.

All positions
will be required to work on holidays and weekends.

All positions
could be required to work nights and shift work.
PARK RANGER
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
·
Advise park
visitors of recreational opportunities and public use regulations.
·
Provide
information and directions to the public; investigate and resolve visitor
complaints; ensure public safety and the enjoyment of park areas.
·
Explain
applicable rules and regulations to park visitors for the purpose of protecting
and preserving natural, historic, and cultural features, sites, and structures.
·
Perform park
regulation enforcement in an assigned park(s) by foot, vehicle, and by boat.
·
Issue warnings
and citations to violators; conduct investigations of reported non-criminal offenses/incidents
to collect evidence, statements, and other relevant information; may be
required to provide testimony in court regarding investigations and/or
citations.
·
Comply with the
policies and procedures of the Parks and Open Lands Department.
·
Respond to and
perform effectively in emergency situations until relieved by appropriate
agency or appropriate supervisor.
·
Prepare and
maintain records and reports.
·
Establish and
maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of
work.
·
Work under
varying degrees of stress for extended periods of time in an outdoor
environment.
·
Effectively
enforce park regulations.
·
Perform light
maintenance duties, which include general upkeep and cleaning of shoreline and
park.
OTHER
DUTIES:

Perform related
duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
·
Principles and
practices of effective natural resource management and park environment
conservation for the benefit of the park user and for the protection of the
park resources and facilities.
·
Basic
recreational activities of the park user including boating, fishing, hiking,
camping, mountain biking, horseback riding, nature study, etc.
·
Wildlife, geology,
environmental sciences, local and state history and related subjects required
for preparation and presentation of park interpretive programs as needed.
·
Recordkeeping
and reporting procedures.
·
Park regulations
and enforcement procedures, protocol, and appropriate corrective actions.
·
County and state
laws, rules, regulations and policies regarding park operations.
·
Basic principles
of First Aid and CPR.
·
Hazards
associated with park operations work and safe work practices and precautions.
Ability to:
·
Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents, and
places.
·
Use and care for firearms (if POST certified).
·
Think and act quickly in emergencies.
·
Judge situations and people accurately.
·
Learn, understand, and interpret laws and regulations.

Physical Requirements:
·
Must have appropriate voice and hearing skills to be clearly understood
on the telephone, radio, and in public contacts.
·
Lift, kneel,
carry, push, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, grasp, walk, run, and balance in the
performance of park regulation enforcement and other assigned tasks.
·
Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time. Must be
able to walk up and down stairs.
·
Must be able to run for short or long distances, change directions
quickly while running, and run up and down stairs.
·
Must be able to get into and out of vehicle repeatedly.
·
Must be able to lift, carry, drag, or push a minimum of 40 pounds.
·
Must be able to work in hazardous or dangerous work areas or
situations.
·
Must have fine and gross motor skills; hand dexterity; full use of
fingers, hands, arms, and good grip strength to perform duties; effectively use
firearms (if POST certified), operate equipment, etc.
·
May be subjected to caustic, flammable, or other hazardous materials.
·
Must be capable of working under stressful situations.
·
Must have quick reactions.
·
Must be capable of going from stationary to exertion in an instant.
·
Must have good cognitive skills and awareness of work accuracy.
·
Must have ability to concentrate on more than one task at a time and to
make independent decisions.

Must be able to work in year-round outside weather conditions;
including temperature extremes.
·
Employee may be occasionally exposed to smoke during prescribed burning
or wildland fire activities.
Experience
and Education:
Experience:
·
Six months of
park, natural resources, law enforcement, or related experience desired.
·
Some boating
experience desired.
Education:
·
Equivalent to
the completion of the twelfth grade required. Some college courses in Park Management, Wildlife Biology,
or a related field desired.
Licenses/Certifications
·
Possession of a
valid Colorado Driver’s License required.
·
CPR and First
Aid certifications required by starting date.
·
P.O.S.T. / EMT
or 1st Responder Certification is strongly desired.
BOAT RANGER: In addition to Park Ranger:
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
·
Perform boat
safety inspections.
·
Perform light
maintenance duties which include general upkeep and cleaning of shoreline and
patrol boat.
QUALIFICATIONS:
·
Knowledge of
general boat maintenance required.
·
Knowledge of Colorado boating regulations required.
·
Competent
swimming ability required.
·
Must be
physically capable to effect water rescue maneuvers.
Experience:
·
Significant
experience in boat operation required.
HOMELAND SECURITY
RANGER
: In addition
to Park Ranger:
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
·
Patrol dams and
swim beach on assigned reservoirs.
·
Provide security
to Federal dams by searching coolers, backpacks, vehicles, etc., in an effort
to detect contraband.
·
Minor
maintenance of the swim area and beach including litter pick-up, setting and
adjusting float lines, and guard stands if needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
·
Six months of
park or law enforcement experience desired.
Education:
·
Equivalent to
the completion of the twelfth grade required. Some college courses in Park Management, Wildlife Biology,
or a related field is desired.
