CYF works with children who are at risk of being abused or have been abused or neglected. It also works with children who are beyond their parent's control, have delinquent behavior, and/or have violated the law. CYF has a number of specialized programs devoted to serving the children and families of Larimer County. The CYF mission statement is very clear and fits the nature of the department's function. It expresses an integrated approach to child protection, family, and juvenile justice.
CYF strongly supports the right of children to be safe. It is believed that it is the whole community's responsibility to support and ensure the welfare of children. Some of the department's values are:

Larimer County Child Protection Teams (CPT) are multidisciplinary teams that carry out an advisory role and review assessments conducted by the Larimer County Department of Human Services - Child and Family Services . In Larimer County there are three Child Protection Teams: Fort Collins community CPT, Loveland community CPT, and Estes Park community CPT.
